Maurice S presents the closing report for Unity.
Closing Report
C.A. World Service Conference 2014
Unity Report
I am more humbled as I see so many examples of love and tolerance being shown here at the conference. I am constantly amazed as more areas come into our fellowship and more bids for the convention for other countries. Thank you for helping me to grow into a better C.A. member. We filled all of our positions on our committee with all new members who are eager to learn and willing to serve. We have work to do when we leave here using the Yahoo group and the Unity Registry which I hope that you would please join and to encourage your unity chairperson(s) to join also.
I want to give my warmest thanks to Russell for his excellent lead at the unity luncheon. You taught me a little more about unity. To all of those members who drove to and from the lagoon you are the real heroes at the luncheon. I hope that everyone enjoyed the luncheon. I want to thank everyone who hosted meetings during the conference. God knows that we needed them.

It is also the responsibility of the Unity vice Chair to contact Hotel liaison and Programming Chair to confirm food and room requirements for this Unity event. It is the responsibility of the
Unity Vice Chair to work with the WSC Unity Chairperson to create a Unity event at the WS Convention. A suggestion for this is 2 to 4 hour maximum event which should include meet and greet, fun and games, and an educational side concerning traditions and /or concepts. This must be done no later than 6 months after conference.
Seconded.
Tony D – Want to speak to the motion?
Maurice S – No.
Brian T – Friendly amendment. Please spell out the word Convention for clarity.
Maurice S – Accepted
Stu E – Question, did you consult with Convention Committee to see if this conflicts with any of our guidelines?
Maurice S – I meet with your committee a couple times. To make this reflect what your guidelines read. Stu E – Thank you. I just wanted everyone on the Floor to know that you had talked with the Convention Committee about this.
Tony D – Any other debate? Seeing none, prepare to vote on the amended motion … motion passes unanimously
Maurice S — MOTION: That a flier be sent in the 2nd Quarter Delegate mailing requesting art work for CATW.
Seconded.
Tony D– Any debate?
Cynthia C – Point of Information, is this subject to SR21? Do we need to see the flier before it is approved?
Tony D – That is a point well taken, this is being called out of order. If you create a flier, we can look at it later in the day.
Maurice S – This flier is difficult to create early as this is contingent on getting the next Convention Theme, etc, etc. We will strike this motion at this time.
Kevin M – Fifth Concept Statement, that interpretation of SR21 as ruled would apply to all fliers going out during the year.
Cynthia C – Parliamentary inquiry – Could we suspend SR21 to approve the flier.
Tony D – I called it out of order as there is nothing to show this Conference Floor.
Break to allow sound system issues to be addressed – BREAK #1
Maurice S – MOTION: To add “Unity Event Suggestions” on Page 6 of CAWSC Unity Committee, Guidelines/Duties to “A Guide to Forming a Committee.”

CLOSING COMMENTS
When I first arrived here at the conference as Unity chairperson the Unity trustee Terry M sat with me and stated that he wanted some real work to come out of this committee. I hope that you feel good about what we have done so far. The next year Kathy Jo took over as the Unity trustee and she became “my trustee”. I have learned so much about love and tolerance from her. Now they are both leaving us. We are better because of you both and I know that you’ll still be there whenever we need you. Whoever

takes over for the next conference has some big shoes to fill. We have tried to make the unity guidelines as user friendly as possible for the first time chairpersons to any current chairpersons. Our hope is that they use the suggestions that we have worked so hard on this conference. We will continue to be at the beck and call to any district, area or region that wants to advance the cause of unity. To our outgoing member Eric F it has been a really pleasure serving with you. Continue to do great things in whatever you decide to do next. Finally to the delegates that decided that Unity is the place to serve, you honor me and I hope that we will learn from each other and help to reach our potential while serving together as Unity members.
Respectfully Submitted
Maurice S
Unity Chair
